Sukthani: Su – uktha: Well – Said : That which is said well. This has been translated by others as hymns, which is not right. We have the suktha kusumavali which means collection of flowers of sukthas – and here the sukthas are proverbs – not hymns. So for us sukthani (sukthas) are (words) that are well spoken.

Prathama Suktham: The first  that is well said.
