Test (Traits) of a Brahmagnyani

with one comment

A portrayal of Vyasa, who is revered by Hindus...

Image via Wikipedia : It is recorded that Veda Vyasa had trouble with Advaita even after a life time of work whereas his son Suka got it in his early teens.

As per my Veda Guru, a Brahmagnyani possesses  the following traits.

  1. Always happy.
  2. Many other people are happy in his/her presence.
  3. Always peaceful.

She said that brahmagnyana is attainable only through spiritual studies like Vedas etc and not through secular studies like science, history etc. She first learned this from a chemistry professor turned vedantist.

I hold and have always held that “sarvam brahma” ie everything is God. Therefore whatever you study and wherever you start you are on the path of brahmagnyanam. Because there is nothing other than the brahma for you to know… Science/Secular gnyaanam  also leads to brahma gnyaanam. Everyone attains God, because there is nothing else to attain.. only God. (Advaita)

Then she asked me if the modern rishis-scientists displayed the 3 traits given above. Probably Feynman., but I don’t know about other modern rishi-scientists.

I hold that there are many scientists who are not peaceful and many vedantists who are not peaceful. There are many scientists who are peaceful and many vedantists who are peaceful. We never know when or where someone will find his/her/its individual peace.

  1. There are quite a few people who have Trait No.2. The first and the last ones seem close to impossible because of the qualifying “Always”.
