  1. What I have heard about Vedas is that they contain knowledge about excellence in wordly/secular affairs, gaining material wealth, status, health etc. They do not lead to ‘Atma Gyaan’. However it is Bhagwad Gita, Yoga Vashishtha, Vedanta gyaan which leads to Atma Gyaan i.e. Ultimate Gyaan leading to liberation. Please clarify.

    • It is true that there Rk Vidhanas and Yajur Vidhanas which teach how to use the Veda Mantras for material gains.
But you can perform Vedokta karma and renounce the phala.. that will be karmayoga as taught in the bhagavd gita.

While yajur veda style of chanting is used on the same mantras for use in karma kanda..
rg veda style of chanting is used for dhyAna, japa and pArAyaNa

There are vEda sUktas like Devi (Vagambhrani) Suktham which describe how a person feels in the ultimate state.

All vedanta is derived from vedas, it is the meaning of the vedas in one sense.
Sri Aurobindo writes that Vedas are for spiritual evolution.. I think the confusion stems from Muller and others who see it as worldly…

For eg you can ask for s’RI in a mantram. Is it wealth, material welfare of divine welfare? Aurobindo says that when you ask for “Go” you are asking for “the light of illumination” Muller says you are asking for a cow. The word “Go” has both meanings in sanskrit. The translators apply their preferences.

What is your personal view on the Gayathri mantram? is it not for spiritual growth? : See http://ancientindians.net/rshis-rishis-rushis/viswamitra-and-the-gayatri-mantra/
